The mission of the Fiesta de Independencia Foundation is to assist the Hispanic community through the provision of scholarships for Hispanic students and the sponsorship of community events that promote the Hispanic culture.

The major annual event is the Fiesta del Grito de Independencia, which takes place on
September 15th, at the Emma Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center. The Fiesta is sponsored by the Fiesta de Independencia Foundation, the Consul General of Mexico, and the City of Austin.
